On 6 June, we already shared that the ECHA had launched a second call for evidence on chromium trioxide. The reason is that the scope of the future restriction has been expanded to include more substances. At the same time, gaps in the data are to be filled in certain areas, such as aerospace. As Vecco companies already participated extensively in the first call for evidence, our analysis of the target group for this survey showed that most Vecco companies are not affected. We communicated this to our members in June.

We would now urge you to share your findings on the (unsuccessful) substitution of CrVI in questionnaire 2b. The background to this is an initiative by major consulting firms, all of which believe that coating companies are being deliberately excluded here. This is particularly dramatic as the results could be used to define the derogations for a future restriction. We must not leave this field to the providers of alternative technologies. This is deliberately creating a distorted and undifferentiated picture that will determine the future of various applications. For this reason, we expressly support this initiative and ask you to tell the ECHA ‘your story’. To make this as efficient as possible for you, we are providing you with instructions on how to fill out the questionnaire and a template to facilitate your submission. In addition, there will be a webinar on this topic on 2 August 2024 at 10 a.m.

In addition to Vecco e.V., the initiative is supported by the AOT (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Oberflächentechnik), the WKÖ Bundesinnungsgruppe Metall-Elektro-Sanitär-Mechatronik-Fahrzeugtechnik (Austrian Federal Guild Association for Metal, Electrical, Sanitary, Mechatronics and Vehicle Technology) and the Fachverband Metalltechnische Industrie (Professional Association for the Metalworking Industry) from Austria. Other European trade associations also intend to participate.
Although our opinion has not been explicitly sought, we will not allow ourselves to be denied a seat at the table where decisions about the future of many of our companies are being made.
